David grew up with the information age and was in at the start. From the hulking steam-powered calculators of the dawn of electronic computing in the 1960s to the modern day internet-based world, David was involved and enthusiastic. His career took in some of the great names of IT like Honeywell and Sperry Univac, and then his own company Management Co-ordinations Ltd (MCL) and its Microl brand (we still have the merchandise).
They broke new ground in networking and accounts management - with big-name accounts like Laura Ashley, the RAF and TSB. Changes in the computer industry overpowered many small IT companies of the early era, and this one did not survive the storm - but he had set up and run a successful and innovative business for many years, he made money and kept us all very well and showed great entrepreneurial zeal. We are proud of what he achieved.
At home, we had some of the first computers - the Sharp MZ80K (is that right?) was our first introduction, and we never looked back. There was always a computer in the house. He'd been moving life on-line - an increasingly expert internet travel agent, home banker, share dealer and bill-payer.
He did love playing around with computers, sometimes to a maddening degree - there remains a junk yard of computer relics, and no piece of freeware was ever deemed unworthy of installation on his computer - which groaned under the weight of strange applications running in the background.
I think he might like the idea of being immortalised on this 'Blog of Condolence'...
